I have just returned from three days in Melbourne, where I was staying at the Holiday Inn in Flinders Lane. I didn’t get to see much, although I did go out walking on two mornings, carrying the camera with me. The complete set of photos is at flickr, but some are shown below as well.
The first morning I went out the front door, and turned left, to go toward the area I had eaten dinner the night before (the Blue Train Cafe, which has really good pizzas). This is not the hotel I was staying at, it is the Grand Hotel across the road.

A little way down Spencer Street, I crossed under the railway. There were a set of anonymous, numbered, doors. Most mysterious.

Approaching the bridge, there was a nice little park on the left.

I crossed the bridge…

…and looked left up the river…

… and turned left on the other side to walk beside the river.

This is around 7:45 AM, and there is no indication of the vast crowds who would be coming to work. The CBD was bizarrely deserted until at least 8:30 AM.

There were some nice structures covered in an intricate mosaic near Southgate

The next morning I set out earlier, looking for a good breakfast, and passed the Southern Cross Station. But in general it was still too dark (just after 7:00) to get any good photos. I found it bizarre that the major railway station was essentially empty at this hour.
